How to Care and Propagate: Triostar Stromanthe

Introduction:
 

  • Triostar Stromanthe Plant also known by its botanical name as “Stromanthe Sanguinea”, is a plant that is native to Brazilian Rainforest.
  • The Plant looks attractive due to its exotic foliage of different shades of green, cream, and pink color.
  • The main gist related to this plant is that it has some outlandish quality of its leaves. The leaves of this plant settle down in the morning and as soon the sun sets the leaves again get straight upward.
  • It can grow tall about 4 to 6 ft. in height and due to its different shape of leaves; it is more famous as a houseplant in the category of indoor plants.

Soil & Climate:

  • It requires moist soil all the time but it should not be waterlogged as it will get susceptible to root rot.
  • Stomanthe grows well in a humid environment so one can mist it every day.
  • It requires temperatures between 18 ~ 33 Celsius degrees.
  • One can feed the plant once a month with liquid fertilizer during the summer and spring seasons.

Light requirement: 

  • It grows well in bright indirect light.
  • The bright indirect light on the plant helps it to make more variegation in leaves.
  • If the plant is exposed to direct sunlight then its leaves may get burn.

Watering Technique:

  • Watering to the plant must be done if the topsoil is dry.
  • Make sure the pot is a well-drained one so that water should not get clogged.
  • Use filtered water or one can also use tap water by keeping it uncovered for the whole night before watering so that the chemicals such as chlorine will get evaporated.

Propagation:

  • Stromanthe can be propagated from its seeds as well as the rhizome part of the plant. However, if propagation is done through rhizome cuttings then it will give fast results.

Vital Tips:

  • The plant must be protected from a high range of winds.
  • Do not keep the plant near Air conditioners and fans.
  • One can use a humidifier or pebble tray during winters since the air is too dry at that time.
  • This plant is non-toxic to humans as well as pets.
  • One can move the plant in 10 to 15 days from one side to the other so that it will get light from all sides in good proportion.
